Climb Kazbek including acclimatization und training in mountaineering

This well-organized tour to climb Kazbek isn’t only for professionals, who have already climbed several mountains over five thousand meters, but also for those, who have no experience in mountaineering and alpine tours.

However, if you want to successfully climb mount Kazbek, you should be in a good physical shape and you shouldn’t have any fear of heights.

The best part of this tour is, that you will have time and opportunity to acclimatize and practice all the necessary skills for mountaineering.

To increase the chance of climbing the wonderful mountain Kazbek, you will have an experienced Guide with UIAA Certificate and we will also help you to cook warm dishes every day at the meteoritical station, (Bethlemi Hut).

Itinerary   

Day 1: Transfer to Stepantsminda and walking tour around village 

You will be picked up at your hotel in Tbilisi and transferred directly to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi). After you have checked in your hotel and taken some rest, we will make a relaxing walk to Gergeti Church, above the village of Stepantsminda.

Gergeti trinity church is situated at 2.170 Meters above sea level, just underneath mount Kazbek and offers wonderful views over mount Kazbek itself and surrounding mountains.

At the evening we will have farewell dinner with Georgian traditional dishes.

Day 2. Climb to Meteorological Station (Bethlemi Hut) 3.670 m.

We will start the day early in the morning, just after breakfast. To save our energy we will drive and not walk till Gergeti church and then continue our way direction Kazbek by foot.

At the noon you will be on “Sabertse Pass” (2.950m) we will have a picnic and then continue toward the Glacier, just below the Meteorological Station. On Glacier we will take on our crampons and cross the ice and snow within 1 hr.

When we get to station, we will have a warm drink, take a rest and then enjoy dinner with other Alpinists from around the world. (Meals at the station are not included, but your Guide can assist you by cooking.

Day 3: Acclimatization and training for climbing Kazbek

Today we will climb above 4.000 Meters and at the noon descend back to our starting point (3.670m).

At the afternoon we will spend a few hours for training, it includes:

Ice climbing, cutting ice steps, using the ice axe.
Self-arrest techniques.
Glissading (a descending technique) in which you slide down, using your ice axe to check your speed.
Using your crampons, including putting them on, walking in them, and specific techniques, etc.
Glacier walking. rope management etc.
Basic first aid techniques and rescue signals.

Day 4: Summit Day - Climb Mount Kazbek

On our summit day, for climbing Kazbek you will be good prepared and acclimatized. We will get up at 2 o’clock in the morning, drink cup of tea or coffee, check our equipment and start our expedition direction Kazbek. If we are lucky and weather is good, we will reach the summit in about 5 to 6 hrs. enjoy incredible views, take some pictures and make ready to descend.

We will descend together as a team, slowly and carefully and after 4 hrs. reach the Meteorological station.

Day 5: Spare-day – in case of bad weather

This day is a spare-day in case of bad weather, or in case of slower acclimatization. If your summit day was successful, you can descend back to the village.
Accommodation: meteorological Station, or Family Hotel in Stepantsminda.

Day 6: Descend to Stepantsminda (Kazbegi)

On this morning we will get up a bit late, have breakfast and return to the colorful village, Stepantsminda.
After enjoying a warm shower, you will surely dive deeper in cosmos of Georgian cuisine and drinks in your accommodation or in the bar nearby. Enjoy the evening!
