Ski touring on Kazbek

Join us now for a ski adventure in Georgia and enjoy an amazing ski touring on Mount Kazbek, the third highest mountain in Georgia and the seventh major summit in the Caucasus Mountain range.

The first spot of Ski touring on Mount Kazbek will be Gudauri, a beautiful ski resort in Greater Caucasus, at the altitude of 2.000 m, which is only two hours away from Tbilisi, Georgia’s capital city.

You will spend two days in Gudauri, in order to check the equipment and start your training by going to ski down the slopes. Another important location on this ski touring is the small town of Stepantsminda and Gergeti Trinity church, at the foot of Mount Kazbek.

You will also have the experience of crossing the beautiful Gergeti glacier and finally arrive to Bethlemi Hut, (Meteorological Station) at 3670 meter and of course, the culmination of this trip is the summit of Mount Kazbek, where you will get most stunning views of the Caucasus mountains.

Itinerary

Day 1: Transfer to Gudauri

Pick up at your hotel in Tbilisi and transfer to Gudauri (2.000m). Once there, we have a rest, warm up and go skiing on the slope using ski lifts. (Top lift is at the altitude of 3,280 m We spend this night in Gudauri.

Day 2: Sadzele and village Stepantsminda

Today we will have a great day for a ski touring. We will get to the nearest highest mountain Sadzele and enjoy ski touring direction Cross Pass. From here transfer to Stepantsminda.

Day 3: Ascent to Bethlemi Hut

After breakfast we will drive by 4x4 vehicle to Gergeti Church, at the altitude of 2.200 Meters and from here start our walking to the Betlemi hut at 3.6700m. Depending on the snow conditions first hour will be necessary to carry skis before we get to good snow for ski-touring.

On the way you will enjoy wonderful views of the Trinity Church and surroundings. Crossing the Sabertse Pass at 2.950 m. Continue ski touring following a moraine and Gergeti Glacier to the mountain hut Bethlemi (former meteorological station).

In the Hut you will not have much comfort, but we will try our best to make your stay more pleasant.

Day 4: Acclimatization and training day

Ski touring at the slopes of Mount Kazbek up to about 4000-4400m, depending on snow conditions, till the beginning of the second Plateau. Checking skiing and rescuing Skills. At the afternoon ski down to the hut.

Day 5: Summit Day

We have to get up very early, at about 2 a.m. First, we will get to a plateau at the altitude of 4.500 m. Then passing the south slopes of Kazbek trying to avoid crevasses. From the Plateau we climb up to the Saddle at 4900m, and then following slopes about 35-45 degrees climb the top without Ski (7-8hrs from the hut). The summit of Mount Kazbek 5. 047m provides fantastic views of the Caucasian Mountains and whole region.

After climbing Mount Kazbek, we will enjoy the long skiing down to Bethlemi Hut.

Day 6: Reserve Day

Reserve day in case of bad weather. This day we make a quick summit attempt if weather on the previous day was bad. If we do not need a spear day, we will ski down to Stepantsminda

Day 7: Ski down to Stepantsminda

We will ski down to Gergeti Church and from here we will drive to Stepantsminda

Day 8: Capital of Georgia Tbilisi

With a local cultural Guide, we will drive to Tbilisi. Georgian Guide will explain interesting cultural and historical facts of country and answer all your questions.
When we get to Tbilisi, we will make a small city tour by bus and then we will bring you to your hotel, or directly to airport.
