Religious Tour to Georgia – 1700 years of Christianity
This is a Religious Tour to Georgia for all those who want to make a pilgrimage to holy places and visit all the important religious monuments of Georgia.
On this trip you will see several fascinating and very different sacred buildings. You will also get to know the customs, traditions and traditions of Georgia and gain unique insights into the everyday life of the people in the Caucasus with your local English-speaking guide.
Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrival to Georgia
Pick up at the airport and transfer to hotel

Day 2: Tbilisi city tour
Today we will visit most famous religious monuments of Tbilisi:
- Metekhi Church 13th century - Sioni Cathedral, previous residency of Georgian Patriarch. built in 6th century but newly renovated at the end of 18th century - Anchiskhati Basilica, the oldest sacral building of Tbilisi, built in 6th century In the evening we drive to a traditional restaurant for our welcome dinner. Day 3: Cave monastery – David Gareja
Our Religious tour takes us today into the semi-desert to the cave monastery complex - David Gareja, one of the most important religious and cultural centers of Georgia in the Middle Ages, the monastery cave complex.
In the afternoon we visit the nunnery in Bodbe, where the Illuminator of Georgia, Saint Nino, is buried.
At the evening we will arrive in Telavi and stay in small hotel, run by local family.

Day 4: Religious monuments of eastern Georgia
After breakfast we will drive to Gremi Fortress, which was the capital of the Kakheti region in the XV century. Here we visit the Archangel Church from the XVI century, which was built by King Levan and is uniquely decorated from the floor to the roof with magnificent frescoes.
Next, we visit the 12th century Alaverdi Cathedral - the third largest and most beautifully situated sacred building in Georgia.
We spend the lunch break with Mr. Schuchmann, a native German from Dortmund, who has been living in Georgia since 2006 and presses wines according to both Georgian and European methods. We go on a wine tour and enjoy different local wines.
We spend the night in a nice family-run hotel, where we enjoy several home-made specialties.

Day 5: Spiritual Centre of Georgia and the Greater Caucasus
We drive over the Gombori Pass and a serpentine road to the UNESCO World heritage Site Jvari monastery, built in 7th century.
After lunch break at the river Mtkwari (Kura) we visit the old capital and spiritual centre of Georgia, Mtskheta, with its cathedral "Svetitskhoveli". This unique masterpiece of medieval architecture was built in the XI century and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1994.
Continue towards the Great Caucasus on the famous Georgian military Road, on the way we visit the Ananuri fortress from the 17th century.
In the evening we reach the ski resort of Gudauri at 2,200 metres and spend the night there.

Day 6: Gergeti trinity church and mount Kazbek
Today will be the most interesting and exciting day of our biblical tour in Georgia.
After breakfast we drive over the Cross Pass (2,400m) and shortly afterwards we reach Stepantsminda, an idyllic village at the foot of the mighty Mount Kasbek (5,047m).
By off-road vehicle we reach the Gergeti Trinity Church, situated at an altitude of 2,200 m, built in the XIV century by King Giorgi V.
After lunch we drive through the Dariali Gorge to the Russian border, where we visit the newly built Archangel Church.
At the evening we will drive to Sno and visit the birthplace of the reigning Georgian Patriarch Ilia the Second.

Day 7: Dictator Stalin and the cave town of Uplistsikhe
Today we head west and first stop in the town of Gori, the birthplace of dictator Stalin. If you wish, we can include a visit to the house where he was born.
Afterwards we drive to the oldest cave town in the Caucasus "Uplisziche". This town lies on a branch of the famous Silk Road and was the main place of pilgrimage for the locals in pre-Christian times.
At the evening we will arrive in Tbilisi and after you have rested at the hotel, we drive to a Georgian restaurant.

Day 8: Departure
We take you to the airport and say goodbye with the wish to see you again soon in the Caucasus.
