Day tour and wine tasting in Kakheti – Start in Tbilisi

Itinerary
Wine tour in Kakheti starts quite early. We will pick you up at around 8:30 and drive to Signagi, it is a great city to start a Wine tour. Its architecture, cobblestone streets, location at top of a hill, with the snow-covered greater Caucasus in background, give the town a romantic look. Signagi has also a marriage chapel, which hosts ceremonies taking place all hours of the day and night. These are the reasons, why this small town is called “city of love”.
We will make a short city tour in Signagi and then drive to local wine maker, who has a small wine cellar and produces only traditional wine fermented in Qvevri (Underground Clay Vessels). Our host will show us his property, explain the method how he makes traditional wines and at the end of our tour, we will enjoy tasty lunch, with vegetables, barbeque and several homemade wines.
After lunch we will drive to Tsinandali, Museum-Estate of the Chavchavadze family, representatives of the 19th century Georgian aristocracy. We will walk through the beautiful English-style garden, make a tour in house-museum of the famous poet and General Alexander Chavchavadze, who fought against Napoleon and was later awarded by restored Bourbon dynasty for his service with a Légion d'honneur.
At the end of our wine tour in Kakheti we will visit a modern winery, where wines are produced in both, Georgian and European style. Here we will make a tour through the winery, learn what is deference between several wine fermenting method, what makes Georgian wine so unique and why is it Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
After our tour we will make wine tasting of several wines with a professional sommelier and also try famous Georgian Grappa, called Chacha.
Our day tour and wine tasting is going to an end. If we still have time, we can visit local market (Bazaar) in Telavi and then drive over Gombori Pass back to Tbilisi. Arrival in Tbilisi at about 8 pm.
