Mtskheta – Gori and Uplistsikhe
This full day tour to Mtskheta, Gori and Uplistsikhe includes almost all highlights, you can visit outside of Tbilisi, within one day.
On this day tour you will visit two UNESCO World heritage Sites – Jvari Monastery, as well as Svetitskhoveli Cathedral in old Capital of eastern Georgia – Mtskheta.
You will drive along ancient silk road in direction Gori, here we make a stop at the house, where he was born and spent his first years.
At the end of our day tour, we will explore the oldest cave town of Caucasia – Upliszikhe, dating from 6. Century BC.

Itinerary
1. Mtskheta
Our English-speaking guide and driver will pick you up and drive to Mtskheta – old capital of Eastern Georgia and spiritual centre of the country. In Mtskheta we will visit two UNESCO heritage sites: Jvari Monastery from 7th and Svetitskhoveli Cathedral from 11th centuries.
2. Gori
After visiting Mtskheta we will drive to Gori, birthplace of Dictator Stalin. We will have a look at house, where he was born, as well as his personal railway carriage, which was used by Stalin from 1941 onwards, including his attendances at the Yalta Conference and the Tehran Conference.
3. Uplistsikhe
Our next destination is the ancient cave town Uplistsikhe – built on the crossroads of important trade routes in the 1st half of the 1st millennium BC. It was the main centre of paganism in Georgia and represents nowadays a complex of halls, caves, theatres, altars, pagan temples, secret tunnels, prisons, pharmacy, passages-streets all carved out of stone over an area of 4 hectares, surrounded by defending walls.
Cave town is a unique example of an ancient architecture and even people, whi have visited Petra in Jordan, are impressed by visiting Uplistsikhe.
4. Drive back to Tbilisi
After visiting Uplistsikhe, we will drive to Tbilisi and bring you back to your hotel
Useful information:
Females will need a headscarf for visiting churches and men need long trousers.
For visiting cave town Uplistsikhe is better if you have walking boots, wind jacket, sun cream and sunhat.
Excursion inside of Stalin Museum is not included, but we can include it in our itinerary if you like it.
