Stepantsminda, former Kazbegi, is Georgia’s one of the most popular destinations, visited from people around the globe. But on this day tour, you will explore not only Stepantsminda, but also the its surroundings and all highlights between Tbilisi and mount Kazbek.
You will learn the history the Georgian Military Road, very important route between Europe and Asia. You will visit Ananuri castle from 15th century, with a wonderful location at Jinvali lake, walk to friendship monument, where you have incredible views over wild Caucasus mountains, drive over pass with almost 2.400 meters above sea level and finally enjoy most spectacular Temple of Georgia – Gergeti Trinity, built in 14th century, just beneath of mighty mountain Kazbek.

Itinerary:
We will pick you up around 8:30 and drive direction greater Caucasus.
First destination on our day trip to Stepantsminda will be Ananuri castle, located at turquoise water of Jinvali lake, as a prime example of Georgia’s medieval architecture. Ananuri castle was residence for Aragvi feudal dynasty till 18th century, where numerous of battles have taken place.
We will drive through Pasananauri, located at the confluence of the rivers, white and black Aragvi, was once a popular resort.
After one hour we will arrive to Georgia’s most popular Ski resort – Gudauri, located between 2.100 and 3.200 Meters above Sea level. Not far from Gudauri we will stop at Friendship monument, built back 1983, in order to celebrate 200 years of “friendship” with Russia. Colorful decoration, as well as history of the monument are very interesting, however most of its beauty is thanks to the wonderful location.
Our day tour to Stepantsminda will bring us higher, to Jvari Pass (2.400m) and then to Travertine Natural Monument, where we can taste some natural sparkling water and feel fresh air of the mountains.
At the afternoon we will get to Stepantsminda, still known to the locals as Kazbegi. It has a wonderful location at the foot of mount Kazbek and is most visited place of the country.
In Stepantsminda we have two options: Either we hike to Gergeti Trinity Church, which takes about 3 hours for both directions, or we drive to our destination. If you have good physical condition, you should make this easy hike, rather than driving all the way up.
Gergeti Trinity Church built in 14th century is a mystique monastery, surrounded by high mountains and the vastness of nature. It is the first church consecrated during soviet times and became later a national symbol of Georgia.
After visiting Gergeti Trinity Church, we will drive back and get to Tbilisi at about 7 pm.
