Where history and architecture meet: The Sololaki district stretches behind Tbilisi's Freedom Square, bounded by G. Nizhnianidze, L. Asatiani, Amaghleba, Chonkadze and Asatiani streets. In this oasis of splendour, rich history and breathtaking architecture come together to form a fascinating whole.
The splendour of days gone by: the roots of Sololaki's wealth go back to the late 19th century, when the world was gripped by an oil boom. While the richest Europeans and Armenians built their residences here, an architectural revolution took place. Murals of biblical and historical scenes adorned the magnificent houses, each a masterpiece of its time.
Sololaki: Where water made history: Originally translated from Arabic as 'canal' or 'aqueduct', Sololaki was an area outside the old city walls. The Avanaantkhevi River once flowed through royal gardens owned by the aristocracy and the Bagrationi royal family.
In our quest to discover Sololaki's architectural treasures, we will take a closer look at many of the houses. Every corner of Sololaki will tell us more about the history of this enchanting place.
Join us on a journey into the past and be enchanted by the beauty of Sololaki's architectural masterpieces, which have retained their irresistible charm despite the challenges of time.
