Hiking from Stepantsminda to Abudelauri lakes

During Hiking from Stepantsminda to Abudelauri Lakes you will discover one of the most spectacular hiking routes of Georgia.

You will firstly drive along the Georgian Military Road and get thoroughly acquainted with the cultural highlights of this historical route. You will also hike to the most famous churches of Georgia - Gergeti Trinity and enjoy great views over Mount Kazbek

You will spend one night in a comfortable family hotel, where you will enjoy tasty cuisine of the country and the next day, well rested you will be driven from Stepantsminda to the village of Juta, where you will start your spectacular hike to the Abudelauri lakes and cross beautiful Chaukhi pass (3,340 m) to Khevsureti region.

At the end of the hike, you will be picked up by us and after about 2,5 hours drive, you will be brought back to your hotel in Tbilisi. 

Itinerary:

Day 1: Stepantsminda and surroundings

Around 8:30 am we will pick you up at your hotel in Tbilisi and drive via the Historic Military Road in the direction of the Great Caucasus. On the way we will visit the fortified church of Ananuri, located at the Jinwali reservoir.

Around noon we will cross the Cross Pass at the altitude of 2,400 meters and after a few minutes drive we will reach Stepantsminda, located at the foot of Mount Kazbek.

In Stepantsminda we start an easy hike towards the Gergeti Church, enjoying great views of Mount Kazbek and other mighty mountains of the Greater Caucasus. Arrived at 2,200 meters, we will take a guided tour in the prominent church of Georgia and then go back to Stepantsminda by another way.

In Stepantsminda we will spend the night in a comfortable family hotel, where after a warm shower we will enjoy home-made Georgian dishes, wine and cold beer.

Day 2: Treck over Chaukhi pass to Abudalauri lakes

Today starts the spectacular trek to the neighboring mountain region of Chewsuretien. We have breakfast at 7 o'clock, drive about 30 minutes to the village of Juta and start the hike over Chaukhi Pass towards Abudeauri Lakes.

We start the hike at 2,250 meters and already from the first minute we have beautiful views of the peaks of the Chaukhi Mountains, called also dolomites of Georgia, but the higher we get, the more breathtaking the landscape becomes.

After about 4 hours of hiking, we reach the Chaukhi pass (3.338 m) and start a relatively steep descent to the neighboring region - Khevsureti with unique panoramic view over the Abudelauri lakes and wild romantic landscape of the Greater Caucasus.

We pass the lakes on the left, cross fields rich in flowers with numerous of small streams and reach our destination for the day above the village of Roshka around 4 pm. After small brake we will get into our cars and drive back to the capital. On the way we make a stop at the Jinvali reservoir and reach Tbilisi around 7 pm.
