Trip to Wine region Kakheti – 2 Days
On this trip, you will explore most famous wine region of Georgia – Kakheti, its unique wine making method, traditional dishes, its culture and nature.
During your Kakheti trip you will also drive through semi desert of David Gareja, visit monasteries over thousand years, stay in a cosy hotel run by locals, taste several homemade wine and Georgian grappa.
Kakheti was always important for Georgia not only because of agriculture and wine, but also because of its strategic location, as the first Georgia’s region at the border to Persian empire. Because of its location, Kakheti was mostly the first Region of the country to be attacked and destroyed by Muslim neighbour’s, Persians, Turks and Dagestan’s, but Kakheti managed always to get up on his feet again, to plant the vineyards, restore the monasteries, sing polyphonic songs and welcome the guests again.

Itinerary:
Day 1: David Gareja and city of love – Signagi
Our trip to wine region Kakheti starts in Tbilisi. We will pick you up at your hotel and drive direction east. Our first destination is the semi desert of David Gareja, unique for its wild nature and rock-cut monasteries with mural paintings. Even though, part of main monastery is temporary closed, David Gareja is still worth visiting, especially for its unique nature.
At the afternoon we will drive to Signagi, small town with about 2.000 residents, located on the top of a hill endowed with significant historic and cultural heritage sites. Its location, charming cobblestone streets and houses with wooden balconies and detailed facades give the town a romantic mystique look.
We will walk through the city, visit the famous city wall and drive later to Telavi – capital of Kakheti Region. In Telawi we will enjoy traditional cuisine with homemade Georgian wine.

Day 2: Wine and cultural highlights of Kakheti
On today’s trip in Kakheti, we will explore the best part of the region without hassle. At first, we will walk through Telawi, then visit local market and drive to Ikalto monastery, where ruins of ancient wine cellar and educational academy is still good visible.
Next highlight of Kakheti is Alaverdi, main Cathedral of the region, built in 11th century. Cathedral is surrounded by defending walls and encloses monastic refectory, wine-cellar, as well as oriental bath-house and governor’s residence from a time when Kakheti was under Islamic rule.
Our next destination is local farmer family, where we will enjoy delicious homemade dishes with several traditional wine and Georgian grappa, called - Chacha
After lunch, we will drive to Tsinandali and visit Museum-Estate of the Chavchavadze family, representatives of the 19th century Georgian aristocracy and take a walk through the beautiful English-style garden.
Our final destination is a traditional wine-cellar, where you learn Georgian method of wine production, which is included in UNESCO Intangible world heritage list. After your tour through wine-cellar, you will taste 3 different kinds of wines.
At the and of our trip in Kakheti, we will drive over Gombori pass (1.620m) and get to Tbilisi at about 8 pm.
