Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Georgia (Tbilisi)
You will be picked up at Tbilisi airport and transferred to a nice hotel in old part of the city.
Accommodation: Hotel in Tbilisi 3* (2 overnights)
Day 2: Tbilisi city tour
Our hiking trip in Georgia starts in Capital of the country. This organized city tour, guided by professional English-speaking tour leader, is a combination of walking & driving in historical part of Tbilisi.
Sites to visit:
Metekhi church 13th century, presents one of the most important architectural monuments of old Tbilisi.
Narikala Fortress 4th century, dominates the old town as a most impressive architectural landmark. With its inaccessible slopes, the fortress served as a main fortification and defended the city for centuries.
Old Sulfur Baths with curative properties were commented by numerous travelers who visited the city.
Sioni Cathedral 6th century, this one of the main cathedrals of Georgia was destroyed several times because of the wars and has several construction layers. One of the Holy relics of Georgian people, cross of Saint Nino, enlightener of the country is kept in the temple.
Anchiskhati Basilica 6th century, is the oldest church of Tbilisi. The first foundation dates back to 4th c. and is connected with the adoption of Christianity in Georgia.
At the evening we will have a welcome dinner in a traditional Georgian restaurant.

Day 3: Spiritual Centre – Mtskheta and Greater Caucasus
After breakfast we will drive to Mtskheta, old capital of Georgian Kingdom and spiritual Centre of the country. In Mtskheta we will visit two UNESCO world heritage sites: Jvari Monastery from 6th & Svetitskhoveli Cathedral from 11th centuries.
After lunch break, we will continue our tour through a wonderful landscape via Georgian Military Highway.
The scenery is changing dramatically and we will find attractive views of Greater Caucasus Range.
On the way we will visit Ananuri complex and Aragvi duke’s residence, dated back in 15th century.
At the late afternoon we will cross the highest point of the day – the cross pass (2.400m) and arrive in Stepantsminda at about 6 pm.
In Stepantsminda we will stay in a very nice family hotel and enjoy regional cuisine during our dinner.

Day 4: Unforgettable panoramic views
Today is our first hiking day in the Great Caucasus. We have a beautiful hike ahead of us with wonderful views to the Gergeti Trinity Church from the 14th century.
Our way to the church leads us first through the old village of Stepantsminda, then we enter a birch forest and after about 1.5 hours of hiking we reach the viewpoint from where we can see not only the Gergeti Church itself, but also the mighty Mount Kazbek with its 5,047 metres of altitude within reach.
After visiting the church, we take another, more panoramic route back and arrive back in Stepanzminda around noon.
We then drive through the wild Dariali Gorge to the Georgian-Russian border, where we visit the newly built Archangel Church and take a break at the monastery Cafe.
In the late afternoon we return to Stepantsminda to our accommodation and have free time until dinner.

Day 5: Cave city Uplistsikhe, dictator Stalin and Kingdom of Colchis
Our hiking tour in Georgia will take us today along the ancient Silkroad. First destination will be Gori, small city where dictator Stalin was born.
After a small brake in Gori, we will drive 15 Kilometers further and visit most ancient cave city of Caucasus – Uplistsikhe. This ancient temple town dates from the 6th c BC and is mentioned in the chronicles of the 1st c. A.D. But the foundation of first caves in this town go back to 3rd Millennium BC. The echoing halls, long meandering corridor-streets, chambers for pagan worship and even the remains of the oldest theatre in Georgia, all carved into the rocky plateau are waiting for you to be explored. In Uplistsikhe we will take about 1,5 hrs. to explore most important and best kept caves.
At the late afternoon we will cross Rikoti Pass (850m) to get to the second largest city of Georgia and ancient capital of Kingdom Colchis – Kutaisi.
In Kutaisi we will stay in a very nice family hotel and enjoy regional cuisine during our dinner.

Day 6: Best part of Georgia – Svaneti
After breakfast we will visit UNESCO World heritage – Gelati Cathedral, as well as a local market of Kutaisi and then drive to Svaneti, to the world of high mountains, glaciers, ancient traditions and famous defending towers.
On the way to Svaneti we will visit the world's second highest concrete arch dam – Enguri.
After Lunch we will drive to Mestia, observe picturesque views along the river Enguri. In most cases we will drive on ground roads among dramatic cliffs and narrow canyons of roaring River and waterfalls.
At the evening we will get to capital of upper Svaneti - Mestia and stay here in a very nice family hotel.

Day 7: Hike from Mestia to Mulakhi
Our hiking trip in Georgia will bring us today to a wonderful village Mulakhi, with lots well kept defending towers and great landscape.
We will start hiking from our hotel, go through the city, cross Enguri river, several meadows, enjoy spectacular views over snow covered mountains and after about 6 hrs. we get to our destination – Mulakhi.
In Mulakhi we will stay in typical House for Svaneti and enjoy regional, homemade specialties in our Guesthouse.

Day 8: Defending towers of Adishi
After breakfast we will descend to neighbor village – Jabeshi and start hiking over Adischi Pass (2.460 m). From here we will have panoramic views over mount Ushba (4.710m), Laila (4.010m) and Tetnuldi (4.858m)
After crossing the pass, we will go down through the rhododendron fields and get to a very special and remote village – Adishi, where the roads are closed in winter time and people cannot leave village over 4 to 5 months during high snow.
In Adishi we will stay by Svanetian Family and they will cook for us some tasty regional specialties.

Day 9: Highest Mountain of Georgia Shkhara and UNESCO village - Ushguli
We will say goodbye to our hosts in Adishi and continue our hike firstly along the river Adischis-Tskali.
After 2 hrs. of hiking, we will cross the river and start going partly steep pass of Chkutnieri (2.750m).
From pass you will have spectacular views over several snow-covered mountains with 4 and 5 thousand meters. On the pass we will make a lunch break and descend slowly through the meadows, covered with hundreds of deferent types of flowers.
After about 6 hrs. of hike, we will be picked up by our car in partly abandoned village Chalde and get after one hour drive to UNESCO village Ushguli.
In Ushguli we will make a small round walk around village and visit most famous church of Svaneti – Lamaria, built in 12th century.

Day 10: Over Zagaro Pass to Tbilisi
Today we cross a spectacular pass (Zagaro 2,620 m) and have unique views of Ailama 4,457 m, Tsurungula 4,222 m and other snow-capped mountains of the Great Caucasus.
Around noon we reach Kutaisi and drive back to Tbilisi via the Rikoti Pass.
Around 6 pm we arrive in Tbilisi and after recovering from the long drive, we meet for a joint dinner in a traditional restaurant.
